Are you a self-starter and interested in beginning a fulfilling career in the electric utility industry?   Do you thrive on applying your strong time management skills, attention to detail, and desire to work with quantitative data to deliver work critical to the success of our operation?  If so, WPPI Energy – one of the Greater Madison Area’s 2022 Top Workplaces – is seeking someone like you to fill our Energy Market Operator Role.  We are seeking an individual with positive energy to facilitate our organization’s participation in the Regional Electricity Market on behalf of our Member Utilities.  Energy Market Operators monitor data flows to the wholesale electricity market, respond to generation needs in real time, analyze meter data critical to our 51 Member Utilities, and communicate and respond to alarms.  WPPI Energy has an extensive in depth training program about the electric utility industry setting up the candidate to successfully carry out the responsibilities of this role.  WPPI Energy is excited to explore your interest in becoming part of our Operations team.

As a member of our cohesive team of Energy Market Operators, you will:

  • Work a series of twelve (12) hour day shifts and twelve (12) hour night shifts (some in groups, some alone) as part of a six-week rotation to keep WPPI’s Operations Center running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Verify and facilitate WPPI’s participation in the regional electricity market.
  • Monitor and resolve any issues with incoming electricity meter data.
  • Serve as the first point of contact within the Operations Center.
  • Ensure detailed records are maintained during shift.
  • Hone your communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Perform work in a clean office environment.

Desired qualifications:

  • Interest in working a shift schedule (days and nights).
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working with quantitative data.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel and Word, and able to learn new computer applications.
  • Fluent in the English language.
